Yale Cordage Supplies Clarke/Bjorn Sailing Team

Yale Cordage joins a growing list of sponsors and suppliers as the first new supplier to officially join the Clarke/Bjorn Sailing team since they confirmed their Olympic Star sailing campaign in October.

Canadians Richard Clarke and Tyler Bjorn have been generating quite the buzz throughout Canadian sailing circles recently.  Bjorn was awarded Quebec Sailor of the Year one week, and Vela Veloce, the IRC boat that Clarke and Bjorn have been sailing on, clinched the US-IRC Gulf Stream Series championship the following week.  Immediately afterward, Yale Cordage, the most trusted name in marine and sailing rope for more than 50 years, announced its support of the Canadian Star sailors as a supplier.

“The timing couldn’t be better,” said Richard Clarke.  “We are hoping to complete a major refit of our beloved PStar by the first week of December.  Not only are we faring the bottom, we are replacing every line in the boat with brand new Yale cordage.”  The team will be using and assortment of Vectrus, Ultrex, Crystaline and Yale Cordage’s latest release, Ph.D.

Tyler Bjorn, who has been responsible for tuning the boat and pulling most of the strings since he and Clarke teamed up in the Star said, “Over the past year we have competed in several regattas where the lines on the boat have been an issue. We have a busy year ahead of us in the Star that culminates with the world championship during Perth 2011.  We can’t afford to miss a race or drop one position in a race because of faulty equipment.  Using Yale Cordage for the complete refit gives me confidence that we can cross that issue off the list.”

Skip Yale commented, “Richard Clarke and Tyler Bjorn have exhibited a commitment to performance and excellence throughout all of their sailing campaigns.  We are especially pleased to be collaborating with them on their Star campaign. The demands of the Star's running rigging are formidable, and our new Ph.D. sheets and control lines with Ph.D.'s outstanding grip on the hands and glide through the blocks is ideal for delivering top performance in all conditions.  Olympic class Star sailing is one of the toughest proving grounds there is and we are excited to have Richard and Tyler racing and winning with our line."
